A strong language foundation allows us to express our thoughts and emotions, make sense of complex and abstract concepts, communicate effectively with those around us, and develop the underlying comprehension abilities key for academic achievement. Addressing this foundation is a first and critical step in intervention. As core language skills including: vocabulary, grammar, memory, and comprehension improve, so will higher level academic skills including reading comprehension and written expression. Individualized therapy sessions are designed to specifically focus on vocabulary enrichment, comparing and contrasting, word finding, comprehension of figurative language, persuasion, strategies for memory and recall, and direct instruction on the irregularities and nuances of the English language. Articulation of errored sounds can also be addressed as needed.
